Family Law Attorneys For Glendale
Glendale is split between three different courthouses. Which one hears your case depends on your ZIP code, and neighbours a few streets apart can end up in different buildings on opposite sides of the Valley.

Glendale Is Split Three Ways
Maricopa County Superior Court divides family law cases between four regional courthouses, and Glendale is one of the few cities cut across more than one boundary. Three of the four take Glendale ZIP codes.
This is not a technicality. The Northeast courthouse is at 40th Street and the 101 in north Phoenix. The Northwest courthouse is in Surprise. They are around thirty miles apart, and which one you drive to is decided before anyone reads your petition.

How Assignment Actually Works
For family law cases filed on or after June 30, 2025, you may file with the Clerk of the Court at any Superior Court location in the county. Filing somewhere does not move your case there.
Assignment is by ZIP code, using the ZIP code in the petitioner’s address on the initial filing. If the petitioner is represented, the court uses the ZIP code in the lawyer’s address instead.
In a city split three ways that rule has real consequences. Two people on the same street can be in different districts if the ZIP boundary runs between them, and a represented petitioner can pull the case somewhere else entirely.
Self-Help Is At The Courthouse
The county’s Law Library Resource Center has branches at both the Northeast and Northwest courthouses. Forms, appointments to have them reviewed, workshops. Find out which courthouse is yours before you drive to one.
Military Pay Is Its Own Body Of Law
Luke Air Force Base, addressed as Glendale, publishes its own personnel numbers: 5,280 active duty, 2,365 reserve and 2,876 civilian employees as of its July 2024 fact sheet. The 56th Fighter Wing trains F-35 and F-16 pilots there. No other city in this part of the Valley has anything comparable on its doorstep.
A divorce involving a servicemember is not an ordinary divorce with a uniform in it. Military retired pay is divided under a specific federal statute with its own rules and its own limits. A survivor benefit election has to be made within a deadline that has nothing to do with the divorce timeline, and missing it can quietly cost a former spouse everything the pension was supposed to provide. Basic allowance for housing is treated differently from salary for support purposes. And a servicemember who is deployed or otherwise unavailable has federal protections that can pause a case.
Those are not details you bolt on at the end. They shape what a fair settlement looks like from the first conversation.
Retired Pay
Dividing military retired pay is governed by federal law with rules that do not match how a civilian pension is split. The wording of the order matters, and the pay centre has to accept it.
Survivor Benefits
A survivor benefit election protects a former spouse if the servicemember dies first. There are deadlines, and they are unforgiving.
Deployment
Federal law gives servicemembers protections that can delay proceedings. That cuts both ways and needs planning rather than surprise.
Allowances
Housing and subsistence allowances are not salary, but they are not invisible either. How they are treated for support is a question worth asking early.
Personnel figures are from the Luke Air Force Base fact sheet dated July 2024. The base is addressed as Glendale and carries its own postal designation; we have not asserted that the installation sits inside Glendale’s incorporated limits.
Hospitals, Stadiums & Shift Work
Away from the base, Glendale’s other large employment story is healthcare. The City of Glendale reports that hospitals in the city employ around 14,000 healthcare workers, at Banner Thunderbird and Abrazo Arrowhead among others. Hospital pay comes with shift differentials, per diem work and overtime, which makes an average monthly income harder to pin down than a salary.
Glendale also hosts State Farm Stadium and Desert Diamond Arena, and Camelback Ranch for spring training. Event work is seasonal and irregular by nature, and a support calculation built on a good month or a bad one will be wrong in both directions.
The demographics matter too. Glendale’s median household income is $73,530, the lowest of the large West Valley cities, and owner occupancy is 57.2%, meaning a substantial share of Glendale divorces have no house to divide. When there is no equity in a home, the argument moves to the lease, the deposit and who can afford to rehouse the children.
| City | Median household income | Owner-occupied | Median home value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glendale | $73,530 | 57.2% | $387,500 |
| Peoria | $95,815 | 76.0% | $463,600 |
| Surprise | $96,711 | 79.1% | $435,100 |
| Maricopa County | $89,300 | 65.2% | $452,800 |
U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, 2020 to 2024 estimates in 2024 dollars. The hospital employment figure is the City of Glendale’s own published number.

Glendale Family Law FAQs
Which courthouse is mine?+
It depends on your ZIP code. Most Glendale ZIP codes go to the Northeast Regional Center in north Phoenix. 85307 and 85309 go to the Northwest Regional Center in Surprise. 85311 goes to the Central Court Building downtown.
If you are represented, the court uses your lawyer’s ZIP code rather than yours, which can change the answer.
My spouse is stationed at Luke. Where does the case go?+
The base ZIP code, 85309, is assigned to the Northwest Regional Center in Surprise rather than to the Northeast courthouse that serves most of Glendale. That surprises people who assume the nearest big courthouse is theirs.
How is military retired pay divided?+
Under federal law, with rules that differ from how a civilian pension is split, and the order has to be worded so that the pay centre will accept and act on it.
This is a place where a general family lawyer without military experience can produce a decree that reads fine and does not work. Ask about it directly.
What happens if my spouse deploys during the case?+
Federal law provides protections for servicemembers that can pause proceedings while they are unable to participate. It is not a way to avoid a case indefinitely, but it does affect timing, and planning around it beats reacting to it.
My income changes every month. How is support calculated?+
Variable income from shift differentials, overtime or event work is common in Glendale and it is a frequent source of argument. What matters is choosing a fair period to average and documenting it, rather than letting the other side pick the month that suits them.
We rent. Is there anything to divide?+
Often yes, and it is usually overlooked. Retirement accounts, vehicles, debt and tax refunds are all in play whether or not you own a home. What changes without a house is that the argument shifts to who stays in the lease and who can afford to move.
