Tucson, Arizona · Family Law
Tucson, AZ High-Net-Worth Divorce Attorneys
Desert Legal Group represents Tucson clients in Pima County Superior Court, in a market with its own valuations, its own experts and its own asset mix.

Key Takeaways
- Arizona community property law is statewide, so A.R.S. § 25-211 applies identically in Pima County and Maricopa County.
- What differs is the market. Tucson valuations, comparables and the local expert pool are not Phoenix ones, and using Phoenix inputs produces wrong numbers.
- Your case is heard in Pima County Superior Court, and as of July 2026 several Family Court judges sit at 240 N. Stone Avenue rather than the Congress Street building.
Overview
If you are weighing a Phoenix firm for a Tucson case, the fair question is whether the distance costs you anything. On the law it does not, because the statutes are the same. On the numbers it can, if the firm imports Phoenix assumptions into a Tucson market.
We do not. Call for a free consultation and ask us directly how we would handle the valuation side.
Community or separate
The Same Statutes, Applied in Pima County
A.R.S. § 25-211 presumes that property acquired by either spouse during the marriage is community, excepting property received by gift, devise or descent and property acquired after a petition is served where a decree follows.
A.R.S. § 25-213 preserves as separate whatever a spouse owned before the marriage or acquired by gift or inheritance during it, along with the rents, issues and profits of that property.
At division, A.R.S. § 25-318 directs the court to assign each spouse their sole and separate property and to divide the community estate equitably, though not necessarily in kind, and without regard to marital misconduct. None of that changes south of the county line.
A different market
Tucson Valuations Are Not Phoenix Valuations
Real estate is the obvious one. Tucson has moved differently from the Phoenix metro through several cycles, and a comparable set drawn from the wrong market produces a number that will not survive cross examination.
The asset mix differs too. Ranch land, larger acreage parcels, university-connected businesses and professional practices show up more often here than the corporate equity that dominates East Valley cases, and each needs an appraiser who works in that category.
The expert pool is separate. Business valuators, forensic accountants and appraisers who practise in Pima County know the local buyers and the local comparables, and a judge in that court has usually seen them before. Retaining an unfamiliar Phoenix expert is not automatically a disadvantage but it is not free either.
And your case is heard in Pima County Superior Court rather than Maricopa. The Clerk of the Superior Court is at 110 W. Congress Street in Tucson. As of July 2026 the court advised that eight Family Court judges sit at the Consolidated Justice Court at 240 N. Stone Avenue, and told parties to confirm with the judge on their case. Do not rely on old directions.
If your assets sit in both counties, and plenty of Tucson estates include Phoenix rental property, expect to need appraisal work in two markets rather than one set of assumptions stretched across both.
How we work
How We Handle a Tucson High-Asset Divorce
We have acted for NFL players, professional athletes and public figures, which is a way of saying we are comfortable with unusual assets, not a claim to know your local market better than someone who practises in it daily.
For a Tucson client, the commitment is that we retain local expertise where local expertise is what the case needs, rather than defaulting to whoever we last used in Phoenix.
We also front-load disclosure and tax. A.R.S. § 25-318 lets the court weigh obligations tied to property, including taxes accruing on receipt, and on appreciated land that difference is not small.

Ask us at the consultation how we would staff and value your case. If our answer does not satisfy you, a Tucson firm may be the better choice and we will say so.
