Family Law Across Yavapai County
Yavapai County hears family cases in two courthouses, Prescott and Camp Verde, on opposite sides of a mountain range. Which one your case lands in shapes the practical side of everything that follows.

Two courthouses, one county, and a mountain range in between.
Two Courthouses, Not One
Yavapai County runs Superior Court out of two locations. Prescott, the county seat, carries most of the bench and the Family Law Commissioner. Camp Verde serves the Verde Valley.
The distance between them is not a formality. Prescott sits high in the central mountains, Camp Verde sits down in the Verde Valley, and the road between the two climbs a serious amount of elevation. In winter that road is a real variable.
If you live in Cottonwood, Clarkdale or Camp Verde, ask about the Camp Verde courthouse. If you live in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley or Dewey-Humboldt, Prescott is the likely answer. Confirm rather than assume, because the assignment is the court’s to make, not yours.

Ask which courthouse first
The gap between the two is an hour of mountain road each way, on every hearing date.
Worth confirming before you plan anything around it.
A County Of Separate Towns
Yavapai County has no metro core. Prescott, Prescott Valley, Cottonwood, Sedona and Camp Verde are distinct towns with real distance between them, and the county reaches west to Bagdad and north to Seligman.
For a parenting plan that means exchange points and school districts carry more weight here than they do in the Valley. A midpoint that looks reasonable on a map can be a canyon road in practice.
People also commute out of the county, to Phoenix or Flagstaff. A schedule that ignores a two hour commute does not survive its first month.
Four Things Worth Knowing
Two Courthouses
Prescott at 120 S. Cortez Street, Camp Verde at 2840 N. Commonwealth Drive. Which one hears your case is the court’s assignment, not your preference.
Sedona Sits On A County Line
Sedona straddles the Yavapai and Coconino county line. Which side of the city you live on can decide which county your case belongs in. Check that before anything gets filed.
Plan For The Mountain
Prescott to Camp Verde is an hour of mountain road each way and winter weather is a genuine factor. Build it into hearing days and exchange schedules from the start.

Yavapai County Family Law FAQs
Will my case be heard in Prescott or Camp Verde?+
That is the court’s assignment rather than your choice, and it generally follows where you live. The Verde Valley towns tend toward Camp Verde and the Prescott basin toward Prescott.
Confirm it early. The difference is two hours of driving on every hearing date.
I live in Sedona. Is that Yavapai County?+
Partly. Sedona straddles the Yavapai and Coconino county line, so the answer depends on your address rather than the city name.
Get this checked before filing. Filing in the wrong county costs time you do not get back.
Do you have an office in Prescott?+
No. Desert Legal Group works out of Phoenix. We take Yavapai County matters and we would rather tell you plainly how that works than let you find out later.
Ask us about appearances, meetings and travel on the consultation call.
When should I call?+
Earlier helps. The decisions that are hardest to undo tend to get made in the first few weeks, usually before anyone has spoken to a lawyer.
The consultation is free and there is no obligation to hire us.
